Struggling with Chapped Lips?

What can be done for Chapped Lips?  I feel like this is such an ongoing issue for so many of us.  I have found a great solution that has worked for me and several of my clients, so I thought I’d share it.  Most chapstick and lipbalm products have petroleum or other “occlusive” ingredients in them.  This means it acts like saran wrap and doesn’t let moisture get out, but it also doesn’t allow moisture in.  This isn’t necessarily bad.  However, if you are only putting this kind of balm on your lips, then it may not be helping them.  Here’s what I have found:  first apply a moisturizer.  Something breathable, something you would put on your face or under your eyes (In fact, undereye cream is what I like to use).  Then “seal” it in with your regular lip balm or other petroleum-based product.  This way, the hydration stays put.  I do this before bed each night, and even when I have a stuffy nose and I’m mouth-breathing all night, I still have buttery soft lips in the morning.

Love,

Dr. Bessie
